Maritime Structural fitter (Shipfitter) Seminar
The Maritime Structural Fitter Seminar prepares students for careers in a maritime environment which may include oil and gas industries, fabrications shops, shipyards and surrounding areas. The concentration of this seminar will involve maritime industry and how metal workers produce building materials for construction projects in and around the maritime environment. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to understand welding safety in regards to personal protective equipment and the proper requirements for oxyfuel cutting, describe how to clean and prepare all types of base metals for cutting and welding, identify codes that govern welding, describe electrode characteristics and different types of filler metals, describe how to set up make tack welds, understand how to read fabrication drawings used in the industry and all tools related to the structural fitter process. The seminar is designed for persons with a high school diploma, GED, or recognized equivalent education.
